It seems life happens in waves. Hard stuff often accumulates all at one time. With such a crazy couple of weeks behind us, the ride isn't over. My grandpa passed away this morning at 4:30. My Dad's siblings had all been there at the hospice were last night, singing hymns and praying together. Finally The Lord mercifully took grandpa. He had been suffering for long enough. We will head back down this weekend for the funeral. I don't know when the last time I have been to so many family events all in the same 3 weeks. I am taking two days off work this week to recover a little. Both Tony and I are ex hasted. It was nice to just stay home today, and hang out with my boys. It was a good day.
The boys started a new year at a new school today. Since we had to move in Nov we figured we could keep our kids at their old school until we knew where we were headed next. But since there hasn't been any calling yet, and it was too much to drive 80 minutes every day to get the boys to and from school. We decided to put them into a school here. They loved their first day. Rowan has a buddy from our complex in his class. His friend has been over every day since we've been back. They did their homework together today. He's a nice kid, and I'm so glad Rowan has connected with someone. He had practically no friends at his old school. Today he said that he and his friend were the cool kids in the class. I am so relieved that this move has been good for him. He can't wait to get to school tomorrow. He has a male teacher, which I think will be really good too. I will go in and talk with him about Rowan's learning style. Today while we were reading Rowan was doing really well. All of a sudden Rowan started stumbling. I had him get up and do 5 jumping jacks and when we came back he read smoothly again. I learned that trick while researching about ideas for the kids I work with who are just like Rowan. The school the boys are at is apparently THE ESL school in Vernon. I am excited that Rowan will get opportunities there that he wouldn't in an all Caucasian school. They also have an excellent special needs program. He'll get a chance to make friends with kids from all nationalities and abilities. He will not be the kid needing the most help in the class. But the help he does need will be readily available.
Quin has a Christian teacher, who's daughter goes to the school I work at. Quin enjoyed his first day too. He made some friends and met the class hamster. He was in full day kindergarten before, with 2 or 3 days a week. This school only offers half day kindergarten, so he is in the morning class everyday. He'll do fine, it just means more running back and forth for Tony...for now.
We are hoping that a church will show interest in Tony soon. One called for references this week. We hope something will work out soon. Although I really don't feel like packing up again so soon, or leaving my job yet, but it will be good to settle down somewhere.
