This morning, the boys were bored. It's not like they have a trampoline or swings or nothing...Anyway, they wanted to go exploring, so I told them they had top stay close enough that if I yelled for them they would be able to hear me. They promised to stay close by. I gave the instructions on how to find the highway and get back to our house if they did get lost. Rowan wondered if he should take along a garbage bag for shelter just in case...I told him just don't get lost. So off the went (Just Q and R, Malachi was napping) on their adventure. They slid down the ravine behind our property, and I went back to practicing piano. I while later I remembered that they were out there and thought I should check to see if They could hear me. I yelled and then looked through the fence and I could see them right at the bottom of the hill, near a dry creek bed. They had found treasure! A lighter and some tires. Later they came in and wanted to build a fire with their lighter and roast marshmallows, so I told them they could go back out and gather twigs, and find news paper. They had collected a few and then asked me to light it. (we have this contained fire place thing out side). So I rearranged the sticks and paper and lit it up. The boys went and got some more wood from the garage and piled it on. Before I knew it we had a blazing fire, and my heart was kind of racing cause I really didn't want the forest catching fire, or the manager coming down to get me in trouble, or the fire truck coming out... I hate getting in trouble. I watched, ridgedly while the fire burned, and sparks flew, and the wind came up, and the fire got bigger, ready to grab the hose if necessary. After a while, the fire settled down and we got out the marshmallows. I went to the front of our house to see if you could see the smoke from the road. I couldn't...Maybe from higher up you could. The Afternoon went on, and no fire trucks pulled up the road, and the boys were done with the fire after eating way too many mashmallows. They were bored again, and Malachi was up, so they decided to go back down the hill and get one of the tires that they had found before. They had it in mind to make a tire swing, and hang it from the treehouse.

So they got shoes on again, and waited fro Quin to use the bathroom(it takes a while) and off they went to gather more treasures.

After lugging the tire up the hill, and over the fence, they decided to hang the tire from one of the posts holding up the rails fro the treehouse. It held, and then they fought over who got to try the swing first. It all worked out and every one got a turn.

How fun!! I keep telling my kids that "boredom is the gateway to creativity." They hate it when I say that... I think I may have to tell them to read your blog & see what your "bored" kids did today! I remember exploring like that when I was a kid. It doesn't feel like that long ago...
Your kids are going to have great memories. You are a great mom Rebekah!
Thanx Mandy,
I have to be firm every day on the rule that we do not watch TV or play computer games ALL day. It has been getting so hot in the afternoons here, that I only allow the boys to be out side in the morning. They can play inside in the air conditioning when it's too hot. Today was quite cool tho. It's been rainy, so I figured a fire would be ok. They pretty much have to be forced to be imaginative, but once they start, they have so much fun:)
You have very creative kids :) Sounds like lots of fun.
I love the tire swing! Have fun camping next week and make sure to take lots of pictures!
